Agassiz, Alexander (1835–1910)
Swiss-born American zoologist who was influential in the development of modern systematic zoology and carried out important studies of the seafloor. In 1873 he succeeded his father Louis, as curator of the Harvard Museum of Natural History, to which he also made major financial contributions.
