Carter, President Jimmy (James Earl) (1924-)
While Governor of Georgia, in 1973, Carter reported seeing an unidentified flying object which later analysis revealed was almost certainly the planet Venus. His interest in the phenomena continued into his Presidential years. In 1977, while he was in office, a call went out from the White House for the establishment of a new agency (never subsequently formed) to take up the investigation of UFOs where the US Air Force had left off six years earlier.
