Doppler, Christian Andreas (1803–1853)
Austrian physicist and mathematician famous for his discovery of the Doppler effect. He first described it in a paper on double stars published in 1842. Educated in Salzburg and Vienna, Doppler became professor of physics at Vienna in 1850.
