process philosophy A radical alternative to positivistic philosophies (see positivism), in which the physicists' "spatial" notion of time is rejected and interest centers in the developmental process. First propounded by Henri Bergson, process philosophy influenced William James, George Santayana, and Alfred North Whitehead.
