- A small, intracellular sac, bounded by a membrane, in which various substances are stored or transported. The term is sometimes used more generally to mean any structure surrounded by a membrane.
• CELL BIOLOGY - A bubble-shaped cavity in a volcanic rock formed by expanding gases.
