Zworykin, Vladimir Kosma (1889–1982) Russian-born American electrical engineer regarded as the father of modern television: his kinescope (patented 1924), little adapted, is our modern picture tube, and his iconoscope, though now obsolete, represents the basis of the first practical television camera. He also made important contributions to the electron microscope.
