An automorphism is an isomorphism from a set onto itself. An automorphism group of a group G is the group formed by the automorphisms of G (bijections from G to itself which preserve the multiplication). Similarly, one can consider the automorphism groups of other structures such as rings and graphs, by looking at bijections which preserve their mathematical structure.
