Ep galaxy

In Morgan's classification (see galaxy classification), an Ep galaxy is an elliptical galaxy that shows some peculiarity in appearance. This might involve patches or lanes of dust, some hot, young stars, high-energy phenomena associated with the nucleus, or an atypical fall-off in luminosity with distance from the center. Among the best-known Ep galaxies are M87, which has a prominent jet, and M32, a satellite of the Andromeda Galaxy that appears to have been denuded of its outer regions by its massive neighbor.
