Frénicle de Bessy, Bernard (1602–1675)
Frénicle's Methode, 1754 edition.
Bernard Frénicle de Bessy was a French amateur mathematician who extensively researched magic squares; his Des quassez ou tables magiques, published posthumously in 1693, first identified all 880 magic squares of the fourth order.
Frénicle also corresponded with Descartes, Fermat, Huygens, and Mersenne, mostly on number theory, the work for which he is best known.
