Kimberlite is an ultrabasic igneous rock, often altered and fragmented, which contains diamonds formed in situ. It consists of olivine with mica, serpentine, calcite, and other minerals. Its chief occurrences is as diamond-bearing pipes and dikes at Kimberley, South Africa.
