Meerschaum, also called sepiolite, is a fibrous clay silicate mineral, light, porous, opaque white in color, consisting of hydrated magnesium silicate. Chiefly occurring in Turkey, it is used to make tobacco pipes. Hardness 2–2.5; relative density 2.5.
