George Palade was a Romanian-born American cell biologist who shared the 1974 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Albert Claude and Christian de Duve. Using sophisticated electron microscopic techniques and other methods, Palade discovered ribosomes, which are the sites of protein synthesis in the cell.
