The Royal Astronomical Society is a British organization of professional astronomers and geophysicists with headquarters in London. It was founded in 1820 a group of prominent astronomers and scientists, including John Herschel as the Astronomical Society of London and received its Royal Charter in 1831. It publishes several learned journals including the Monthly Notices (issued twice a month).
