trachoma

Trachoma is an infectious disease due to an organism (bedsonia) intermediate in size between bacteria and viruses, the commonest cause of blindness in the world. It causes acute or chronic conjunctivitis or corneal inflammation with secondary blood-vessel extension over the cornea resulting in loss of translucency. Eyelid deformity with secondary corneal damage is also common. It is transmitted by direct contact.
