Chiaroscuro is a term used by classical voice instructors to describe the optimal balance of clearness and darkness in the singing voice tone. Chiaroscuro is a blend of brightness and 'ping' (brilliance and resonance) with warmth and depth i.e. the 'dark' colors (natural or manufactured) of the individual timbre. This technique is an important one to dramatic singers.
