plosive

A plosive is a speech sound produced by suddenly initiating or stopping bursts of air. All plosives are consonants, although not all consonants produce plosives. Examples of plosives are "b," "d," "t", "p", "k", and "g." Plosives are a particular problem when using microphones. In the studio, condenser microphones are equipped with a "pop guard" to break up the air flow from a plosive before it reaches the mic.
