A zero ring, also called an 'O' ring, is a thin donut-shaped ring made out of plastic, the same diameter as a drumhead and used to slightly muffle the vibration of the head. Zero rings are placed around the perimeter of drums to control overtones or unwanted resonance. They can be cut out of old heads or purchased.
