Astérix
Astérix, also known as A-1, was the first French satellite. It served as a test payload for the Diamant rocket. With its launch, France became the first nation other than the two superpowers of the time, the US and USSR, to place its own satellite in orbit. Astérix's orbit is so high that the spacecraft won't fall back to Earth for several centuries.
