TIMED (Thermosphere Ionosphere Mesosphere Energetic Dynamics satellite) is the first science mission in NASA's Solar Connections Program. It is managed for NASA by The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. TIMED is designed to investigate Earth's mesosphere and lower thermosphere, at a height of 100 to 290 kilometers – the least explored and understood region of our atmosphere.
